The Buffalo Bills snapped their two-game losing streak with a 40-9 rout of the Carolina Panthers in Week Eight, largely behind a career day from James Cook, who ran for 216 yards with two touchdowns on 19 carries, and the defense, which produced seven sacks and three takeaways.

Josh Allen completed 12-of-19 passes for 163 yards with one touchdown, collected two rushing touchdowns, and did not turn the ball over in the win. Despite the convincing victory that featured efficient passing metrics, Allen and the passing offense looked unsettled.

In the game, Allen became the NFL’s all-time leader in games with a passing and rushing touchdown (46), passing Cam Newton, coincidentally at Bank of America Stadium against the Panthers, with whom Newton started 129 games across 10 seasons. Allen also tied Newton for the most rushing touchdowns by a quarterback in NFL history (including playoffs) with 77.

Both Allen and offensive coordinator Joe Brady commented after the game that they aren’t concerned with the passing offense. Brady cited the Ravens game in Week One as an example of how the passing game can come to life when necessary, and that Buffalo didn’t need it against Carolina. Allen said that any issues are easy to fix and the root of the problems comes down to him “trusting the guys, trusting my feet and putting the ball where it needs to be.” He used the word “trust” seven times in his 5:37 postgame press conference.

So what does this all mean? What are the issues? That’s what I love about this weekly post. We track everything, every week.
