Josh Allen Weekly: 2024 Entering Week 10 Edition

Examining Josh Allen's 2024 metrics to asses trends and measure his performance.

Josh Allen’s performance in the Buffalo Bills 30-27 Week 10 win over the Miami Dolphins was among the most unique outings of his career. He had 39 passing attempts, 35 targeted less than ten yards down the field. 

Allen averaged 3.7 air yards per attempt, the lowest ever for Allen in a single game. His average for the season is 7.7. 80.4 percent of his passing yardage came after the catch, by far the highest of any quarterback in Week Nine. Derek Carr was No.2 at 69 percent. 18 percent of Allen’s attempts went to his checkdowns. His average time to throw was 2.35 seconds, an unheard-of rate from Allen. 

Week 10 was another sign of Allen’s maturation as a quarterback, proving again his willingness to embrace the necessary way to execute and win a football game. Miami came in with a clear game plan to play heavy zone defense, daring Allen to be patient and believe that eventually, he would force a throw down the field, but Allen never did. 

The Dolphins played Cover 3 or Cover 4 on 61 percent of snaps, making it extremely difficult to work the ball down the field. Allen was eventually rewarded for his patience with Ray Davis' 63-yard catch-and-run for a touchdown that opened up a seven-point lead with just over two minutes left in the third quarter.
