Buffalo Bills vs. Miami Dolphins Week Two Scouting Matchup Preview

Finding the advantages and disadvantages for the Buffalo Bills against the Miami Dolphins.

There’s nothing quite like claiming a hard-earned come-from-behind victory in Week One and then having to go on the road on a short week in Week Two to face the Miami Dolphins, the Buffalo Bills’ biggest threat to winning a fifth consecutive AFC East Division Title, but that’s life in the NFL.

The Bills have had the Dolphins’ number of late, winning the last four contests and 13 of the last 15. Josh Allen has been exceptional against the Dolphins. Buffalo boasts an 11-2 mark in Allen’s starts against Miami, while Allen has scored 41 touchdowns with just 13 turnovers. He has a career passer rating of 108.7 against the Dolphins and has thrown at least two touchdowns against Miami in all 13 games, the longest streak by a quarterback against a single opponent in NFL history. 

Cool, right? Sure is, but absolutely none of that matters on Thursday Night. While there’s undoubtedly confidence the Bills and Allen can draw from their success and perhaps a mental hurdle to clear on Miami’s side of things, the score will be 0-0 when the game kicks off and what happens on the field that night is all that matters. 

Miami is coming off back-to-back playoff appearances in head coach Mike McDaniels' first two seasons while improving the record from 9-8 to 11-6. The Bills ended the Dolphins' season in the Wildcard Round of the playoffs in 2022 before defeating Miami in Week 18 last season which erased a three-game lead for the Dolphins with five games left to play. 

It’s obviously an important game for both teams, but it’s not hard to find inspiration on Miami’s side. If they want the narratives to change, that could start on Thursday Night. 

Miami is a familiar but unique opponent for Buffalo and there’s plenty of new on both sides of the ball for the Dolphins as the Bills look to continue their recent dominance. Let’s examine where both teams have advantages and disadvantages entering the contest.
